better to convert to Jainism ? :-) :-)

December 21, 2010

Read outside a restaurant “ if you want onion with Pav Bhaji and Chole Bhathure  Please pay Rs 10/ extra’

They were serving grated radish and chopped cucumber with these dishes. instead of chopped onions which is an integral part of these dishes.

Obviously with rates of onion and garlic shooting up to Rs 80/- and Rs 400/- per Kg respectively it has just become difficult to relish these two most important ingredients of most of the dishes.

All the Jains and people who don’t eat onions and garlic are having a last laugh at people like us who just cannot live without them.

Looking at the rising prices I think that the day will not be far when these two vegetables will become something to be eaten on special occasions like Diwali, Christmas only.

People who will buy Onions and garlic will be envied upon by others. Moreover all those who will manage to buy will surely flaunt these two by carrying them in transparent bags  and others will pass comment “ he must be very rich/how Lucky.

I think I should become a staunch Jain ( not like the adultrated one that I am )and should take a vow not to eat onion and garlic

It will be like killing two birds with one stone.

Not eating onions and garlic will raise my status in the eyes of all those elderly relatives and my mother in law who don’t eat these ( because of religion) and ofcourse I will be saving so much money by not buying these two priced items.

If you want you can also follow suit. stop eating these two /forget about the tasty gravies/secure a place near God( according to some who don’t eat onion and garlic by not eating these two one is surely to get preference in heaven)

Now we can prepare ‘Apple Sambhar’ or Orange Chatni because they are cheaper, thanks to Government’s short sighted policies.

Wao, that is news to me.
Just wondering what will poor people eat. Earlier the poor could eat the roti just with salt and onion but with these rates they’ll be just chomping on rotis with salt. That is a great way of eliminating the poverty, poor will die of mal nutrition and it will be a win win situation for the goverment.

About becoming a Jain be it staunch, it is all about personal convenience and ensuring place in Jain heaven. Correction_ Jainsim like Buddhism do not belive in God.

Hey did you listen to the Ohso recording ,the link sent you. I was listening to Osho (tape 15) he said all business people are Jains coz’ they gave up very thing that could make them sinner (killing any living thing including germs or touching unclean things) like- farming, services- cobblery, barber, medicine etc. Touching money that is already dead could not kill even germs. I thought it is a good idea to pay someone else to kill your germs and enemies (supari)…

    Peace,

Reminds me of the dialogue in 3 idiots… “beta ab to paneer sunhaar ki dukan per hi milega” 🙂
What an irony of the world, there is a part in world called US where every year million tonnes of grains and other eatables are burnt to ground coz of super surplus production and to avoid devastating price variances in international market and then there is another part in world called India where this is happening.

now we can cry without onions…just ask the price of the onions, that will be enough!!

I insist on not eating it but my mom doesn’t lemme go. She makes me eat it forcefully though the prices are so high. Moms!

Jains don’t believe that there is a God. The God won’t decide whether you go to hell or heaven. Onion is forbidden because taking it out kills the whole plant and also probably the insects around it.
