Eat to live or eat to die

July 12, 2010

I was watching the TV news and sat with a jolt when the news reader showed the story behind the so fresh and green looking vegetables.

And what a coincidence another channel was airing about the synthetic milk and synthetic Khoya. And then up came a list of the food articles which we use daily and what actually we are getting in place of the nutrients which we should get from those food items.

Milk is mixed with toxic additives like Urea to increase the consistency and it is also said that such adulterated milk – remains intact even for 2 or more days while ordinary milk goes sour in a day or more!!

In U.P. few days back a huge raid was conducted in a ghee manufacturing unit and it was found that the so called ghee was being manufactured from animal fat boiled in huge iron pans.  Animal hides of cows, monkeys, donkeys, horses and dogs  hanging by the trees and bones littered showed the scale of manufacturing being carried out clandestinely for  years.

Vegetables are coated with wax to make them look fresh and they are coated with pesticides to give them a shiny look. Pesticides and other harmful chemicals are often used in an attempt to keep the vegetables looking fresh.

Moreover the vegetables are washed in water in which green colour (used for painting) is added to make them appear green and fresh.

Vegetables are grown in gutters, near sewage tanks.

Grains are colored yellow or a colour similar to their natural colour to make them appear bright.

And of course inferior quality seeds, stones, pebbles, sand, saw dust, dung etc are the common ones which are being used to increase the quantity of the raw material and of course increase the profits of the seller..

We all, including the ones who are indulging in such life destroying acts know that these adulterations will cause severe bodily harms, deformities and may lead to death but then the greed for money overshadows a mundane thing like life.

We often hear about our high Indian moral character, Indian values, religious sentiments etc. Is this called as High Moral Character or beliefs in religion?

We Indians are supposed to be very religious oriented.

On one side we even murder people, demolish religious shrines, go on long padyatras, build huge temples, donate money, build dharamshalas, put gold, fat rolls of thousand rupees notes in the donation boxes of temples all in the name of religion and to secure a place in heaven and on the other side we don’t even blink our eye lashes when we play with the lives of other people just to increase our bank balance.

Gone are the days when it was said that good deeds always pay and evil always gets punished.

The money earned through these acts of playing with human life is used for religion enhancement.  Is it called national , religious and moral character?

And by playing with human life do these people really think that they will get place in heaven and they will secure special place in the heart of God.

But I think the way the things stand today, the way the wind is blowing, corruption must have cemented its place firmly up there in the kingdom of God also. So may be he also listens to those only who offers him monetary gifts and common people like you and me are left at the mercy of the ones who are busy building their safe nests.

Just one thing doesn’t this thought ever enter the minds of these people that even they will be eating the same stuff, their children will also be drinking the same synthetic milk , are they not afraid of their and their loves one’s lives?

Now the big question is should we consume these contaminated food and die or not eat at all and then die because of starvation?

Is it possible that this has been going on without the connivance of the local authorities, food inspectors, MLA?
The common man has become redundant in the present system of governance.Let there be a follow up and we will realise that no one has been charged—they all will escape law

Chowlaji we all know that all this has been going on with the connivance of people at different tiers
      but what is the solution
it is such a vicious circle
big question is where to start and how to start?

We are between deep sea and the devil. We are told to eat organic foods but what is the guarantee that those organic foods are genuine and how many of us can afford to buy them on day to day basis?
We are super rich to donate in crores (mind you, not in lakhs) to Tirupathi Balaji but do not wish to improve the basic requirement s of men on the street!

      rightly said.
as i said words like religious , moral values and moral character exists only in books
in reality every one is concerned with fillings one’s own pockets .

No unlawful activity can go undetected for long without connivance of those entrusted to enforce law. Those who manufacture these fake products including medicines feel they or their near & dear one will ever use these. Unless we make our government accountable and it in turn makes those responsible to ensure clean administration accountable the situation will not only carry on like this but worsen.

    Take care

    wow… its scary to hear/see such news…
but what can be done…whats the gurantee that the so-called organic food items are unadulterated…
even mineral water is supposed to be not pure…

    but thats the business…

i guess eventually the body just becomes immune to these impurities…

The least and the best as a smart human we can do is to be more careful with things like this, unless we start growing and consuming our own food, making our own things and becoming self reliant.
Dependency for anything on anyone else always comes at a cost.
